Description
Honda Talon 1000R Sports Side-by-Side
Built for Performance. Built for the Rough Stuff.
The Honda Talon 1000R takes Honda Side-by-Side performance to another level.
Powered by a high-performance 999cc parallel-twin engine and paired with Honda's 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), the Talon 1000R is built for fast, demanding off-road terrain.
With massive FOX suspension travel, Honda's intelligent i-4WD system, HRC Launch Control, paddle shifters and seating for two, the Talon isn't designed to simply get you from A to B.
It's designed to make getting there the best part.
Overseas model shown, NZ spec and colours may vary.
Powerful 999cc Twin-Cylinder Engine
At the heart of the Talon 1000R is a 999cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin four-stroke engine.
Honda designed the engine to deliver strong power and torque throughout the rev range, giving the Talon the performance needed for wide-open terrain, steep climbs and technical off-road driving.
Honda's PGM-FI electronic fuel injection provides precise fuelling and responsive performance, while a high-capacity cooling system helps keep temperatures under control when you're pushing hard.
6-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission
The Talon doesn't use a conventional belt-driven CVT.
Instead, Honda gives you its advanced 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with tough steel gears.
The DCT provides the convenience of an automatic while delivering the direct connection and positive gear changes of a mechanical transmission.
Leave it in Automatic mode and let the Talon handle the shifts, or take control yourself using the steering-column-mounted paddle shifters.
Paddle Shifters
Want more control?
Steering-column-mounted paddle shifters let you change gears without taking your hands off the steering wheel.
In Manual mode, you're in control of the gear changes. Even in Automatic mode, the paddles allow you to override the currently selected gear when you want to.
It's a feature that makes the Talon feel far more engaging to drive than a conventional CVT Side-by-Side.
HRC Launch Control
When it's time to get moving, the Talon 1000R brings some serious Honda racing influence.
HRC Launch Control works with the DCT to deliver rapid acceleration off the line.
Combined with the Talon's geared transmission and powerful 999cc engine, it gives you an incredibly responsive start when you put your foot down.
Massive FOX Suspension
The Talon 1000R is designed to handle terrain that would have most Side-by-Sides backing off.
At the front, independent double-wishbone suspension uses FOX Podium 2.5 shocks with Quick Switch 3 adjustment and provides approximately 449mm of wheel travel.
At the rear, Honda's sophisticated 4+ Link trailing-arm suspension provides an enormous 510mm of wheel travel.
The rear suspension design helps maintain wheel geometry throughout its travel, improving stability and keeping the tyres working effectively even under extreme suspension movement.
FOX Quick Switch 3
The FOX Podium 2.5 shocks feature Quick Switch 3 adjustment, allowing you to quickly change the suspension characteristics to suit different terrain and driving conditions.
That means you can tailor the Talon's suspension depending on whether you're attacking rough technical terrain or opening it up across faster ground.
330mm Ground Clearance
With 330mm of ground clearance, the Talon 1000R has plenty of room underneath for tackling serious off-road terrain.
Combine that with the massive suspension travel, 28-inch tyres and intelligent 4WD system and you've got a machine designed to keep moving when the terrain gets rough.
Honda i-4WD
The Talon 1000R features Honda's advanced i-4WD system.
Rather than relying on a conventional front differential lock, i-4WD uses brake-traction control technology to help maintain front-wheel traction when one wheel begins to spin.
The system works automatically, helping provide the traction you need without requiring you to constantly manage a differential lock.
Electronic Power Steering
Honda's Electronic Power Steering (EPS) is specifically tuned for sport driving.
The system reduces steering effort and helps minimise kickback through the steering wheel when you're travelling across rough terrain.
Assistance varies depending on conditions, with additional help available at lower speeds, in 4WD and when the going gets particularly rough.
Performance-Focused Weight Distribution
Honda engineered the Talon 1000R with a slight rearward weight bias.
Approximately 44% of the vehicle's weight sits over the front and 56% over the rear, helping create the handling characteristics Honda wanted from its sport Side-by-Side.
The result is a chassis designed around stability, traction and predictable handling when you're pushing the Talon through demanding terrain.
28-Inch Tyres & 15-Inch Wheels
The Talon 1000R rolls on aggressive 28-inch tyres mounted to 15-inch wheels.
The larger tyre package works together with the long-travel suspension and 330mm ground clearance to give the Talon serious capability across rocks, ruts and rough off-road terrain.
Four-Wheel Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Performance isn't much use without the ability to bring it back under control.
The Talon 1000R features dual 250mm hydraulic disc brakes at both the front and rear.
Honda's Electronic Brakeforce Distribution system helps manage braking performance across all four wheels, providing strong and predictable stopping power.
Full-Coverage Hard Doors
Full-coverage hard doors come standard on the Talon 1000R.
They provide additional protection from the elements while also incorporating practical storage, cupholders and secure compartments.
Honda uses a double-latch design to help keep the doors secure and minimise rattling when you're charging across rough terrain.
High-Capacity Cooling System
Hard driving, steep terrain and slower technical sections can put a serious load on a Side-by-Side's cooling system.
That's why Honda equips the Talon with a high-capacity cooling system designed to cope with demanding off-road conditions.
Tuned Exhaust System
Honda hasn't ignored the sound and character of the Talon either.
The intake, fuel delivery and exhaust systems have been engineered to work together to provide smooth, consistent power delivery along with a distinctive mechanical exhaust note.
